Petra Betterton is a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor with over six years of experience walking alongside individuals and families through some of life's most difficult moments.
With specialized expertise in trauma-informed care, anxiety, depression, and life transitions, she creates an affirming, culturally sensitive therapeutic space for adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating change. Petra is particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals, women facing unique pressures, and veterans carrying the weight of their service, holding space for each client's full story.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that feeling safe and understood isn't just important, it's essential to meaningful change. Petra draws from a range of evidence-based modalities to tailor care to each client's needs, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients move toward what matters most, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to address the impact of trauma with proven strategies, CAMS (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality) for compassionate, collaborative care during the most difficult moments, RRFT (Regulate, Relate, Reason) to support emotional regulation and connection, and play therapy for younger clients who communicate best through creative expression.
Petra holds a Master's degree in counseling and brings clinical experience from psychiatric facilities, outpatient programs, and clinical supervision settings. This breadth of training informs her layered understanding of how trauma, mood, and life circumstances intersect, and how each person's healing path is uniquely their own. She is also certified in telehealth, which allows her to meet clients wherever they are most comfortable, whether that's in person or from the privacy of their own space.
Outside the therapy room, Petra brings the same warmth and curiosity to her own life that she offers her clients. Her commitment to walking alongside others, especially through the hardest seasons, reflects a deep belief that healing happens through connection, collaboration, and compassion.
Petra's training in trauma-focused modalities, including TF-CBT, CAMS, and RRFT, gives her a uniquely layered toolkit for helping clients address trauma, build emotional regulation, and develop sustainable coping skills.
Her commitment to affirming, culturally sensitive care for LGBTQIA+ individuals, women, and veterans reflects a belief that every client deserves to feel fully seen and understood from their very first session.
Petra's collaborative, pace-respecting approach helps clients build resilience and move toward meaningful change without pressure to "be ready" or have everything figured out before they begin.
"You don't have to have it all figured out before we start. You don't have to be 'ready' or know exactly what you need. My role is to help you build resilience and move toward meaningful change at your own pace, in your own way."
