HOW WE MAY USE AND DISCLOSE HEALTH INFORMATION
Treatment, Payment, and Health Care Operations
Federal privacy regulations allow healthcare providers who have a direct treatment relationship with a patient to use or disclose protected health information without written authorization for treatment, payment, or healthcare operations.
For example, a clinician may consult with another licensed healthcare provider regarding your treatment. Healthcare providers involved in your care may share information necessary to coordinate services.
The term “treatment” includes coordination and management of care between healthcare providers, consultations, and referrals.
SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER RECORDS
Some health information related to the diagnosis, treatment, or referral for treatment of substance use disorders may be protected under federal confidentiality regulations known as 42 CFR Part 2, which provide additional privacy protections beyond HIPAA.
When applicable, substance use disorder treatment records generally cannot be disclosed without your written consent except in limited circumstances permitted by federal law.
Written consent may allow disclosure of such information for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations consistent with federal regulations.
NOTICE REGARDING REDISCLOSURE OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER INFORMATION
Information related to substance use disorder treatment that is disclosed with patient authorization may be redisclosed by the recipient as permitted by applicable federal and state laws.
Federal law prohibits the use of substance use disorder treatment records to investigate or prosecute a patient without a court order.

If you are involved in a lawsuit or legal dispute, we may disclose health information in response to a court or administrative order.
If the information includes substance use disorder treatment records protected under federal confidentiality regulations, disclosure may require a court order that complies with those regulations.
