Consetta Canales is a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health who specializes in treating children and adolescents through equine-assisted psychotherapy at Buddy's Place Therapeutic Farm.
With specialized expertise in anxiety, ADHD, family therapy, and developmental disorders, she creates a calm, grounded therapeutic space where young clients can connect with horses, with themselves, and with the people who love them. Consetta is particularly passionate about helping children and adolescents discover how working with horses can support communication, problem-solving, trust, and empathy in ways traditional office-based therapy often cannot.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in 20 years of experience working with horses and a deep understanding of the powerful impact they can have on humans, especially children. Horses are remarkably perceptive animals, and they often mirror a child's emotions and behaviors back in ways that offer immediate, honest feedback. This unique dynamic helps children become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, learn healthy ways of managing them, and practice essential life skills in a safe, supportive environment. The farm setting itself, peaceful and natural, helps children feel more at ease, opening the door to deeper insights and meaningful breakthroughs.
Consetta holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She has worked across a wide range of clinical settings, including inpatient treatment, outpatient community mental health, elementary schools, residential treatment, and telehealth. This breadth of experience allows her to meet children, adolescents, and families wherever they are on their journey.
Outside the therapy room, Consetta's love for horses extends well beyond her professional work. Her years on the farm and her commitment to the human-animal bond inform every part of her practice, where her goal is always to provide a safe, supportive environment for children to grow, connect, and thrive.
Consetta's two decades of experience working with horses, paired with her clinical training, give her a rare depth of insight into how children connect with animals and how those connections can become powerful tools for healing.
Her belief that horses offer something traditional therapy often cannot, immediate, honest feedback in a calming, natural setting, shapes her commitment to equine-assisted psychotherapy as a transformative experience for young clients.
Consetta's grounded, patient approach helps children build communication, trust, problem-solving, and empathy skills they carry into every part of their lives.
"Horses have a way of meeting children exactly where they are. They listen without words, reflect honestly, and create space for kids to feel calm enough to discover what they're really carrying. It's a privilege to walk alongside families on that journey."
